Who’s Behind it All?

Meet David Hickey: Managing Director

As the fourth-generation member of the Hickey family to lead the business, David has guided the company since 2000. His leadership has seen the company expand its services, modernise its facilities, and evolve into the StorageWise brand.

David’s approach combines respect for the company’s long history with a vision for the future. Under his direction, StorageWise has invested in modern technology while improving customer systems and sustainable practices that ensure the business remains relevant for generations to come.

His goal has always been to deliver reliable, affordable storage solutions while maintaining the family values that have defined the business for more than a century.

Meet Martin Doherty: Storage Manager

Martin has been a key part of StorageWise since 2005. Originally from Rathkeale, Martin holds a degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and brings extensive operational experience to the role.

As Storage Manager, Martin ensures the facility runs smoothly. Whether he’s fixing a storage unit door, organising layouts, or assisting customers with moving equipment, he’s known for his hands-on approach.

Outside of work, he’s deeply involved in the local community as a GAA coach and referee. When he’s not on the pitch, he also enjoys golf and horse racing.

Meet Keith Kelly: Operations Manager

Since joining the company in 2010, Keith Kelly has played a central role in managing the operational side of the business.

A graduate of Limerick Institute of Technology, Keith holds an honours degree in Business Studies and Computer Applications. His background in IT and business systems helps ensure StorageWise operates efficiently, from accounting and customer management software to file storage systems.

Keith particularly enjoys the variety that comes with working in the self-storage industry, saying, “No two days are ever the same. One moment you’re helping a local business organise stock storage, and the next you’re chatting to a family who need temporary storage while moving house.”

Outside the office, Keith is a passionate musician and photographer. In 2024, he also published a book celebrating the city’s music scene titled A River Runs Through It.

Pat Kennedy: Customer Service Representative

The newest member of the team, Pat Kennedy, joined StorageWise in July 2025 after an impressive 30-year career with Dell Technologies, where he worked in a range of leadership and project roles.

At StorageWise, Pat brings that knowledge to customer service, helping clients choose the right storage solutions and ensuring their experience is smooth from start to finish.

Pat is also deeply involved in the local community. He has served for nine years as Communications Officer for Caherline GAA Club in East Limerick.

Starting with Horse-Drawn Carts…

StorageWise’s story stretches back to 1915, when William Hickey founded the Limerick Carting Company on Thomas Street in the heart of the city. In those early days, the business transported goods from the railway station to shops and homes across Limerick.

Over the decades, the company evolved, moving from horse-drawn transport to modern logistics, warehousing and eventually self-storage. More than a century later, the business is still proudly family-run and locally operated.
